Shiba Inus - Physical Description
Shiba Inus are the smallest of the Japanese native dog breeds. It is good-natured and confident. The eyes are deep set, and upward slanting toward the outside base of the ear. The eye rims are black. The triangular ears are pricked and small. They are set well apart. The skull is of a moderate size and in proportion to the body. The broad forehead is rather flat. Stop is moderate. The Shiba Inu has a firm, and round muzzle with a strong lower jaw. The dog's lips are tight and black. The nose is black. Strong teeth should meet in a scissors bite.

The Shiba Inu is double-coated with the stiff outer coat. The under coat is soft and thick. The coat color is red, red sesame, black or black and tan, with white markings. Shiba Inus are medium-boned, compact and well-muscled dogs.

Weight: 18-25 pounds
Life Span: Shiba Inus can live up to 13-16 years

Shiba Inus - Temperament
Shiba Inus are bold, alert and gentle dogs. The Shiba Inu owner will have to deal with a possessiveness of the breed. They do not like to share. This feature makes them good guard dogs. Shiba Inus are protective of their owners. Shiba Inus are dignified dogs. Shiba Inus have a high activity level, but they are not hyperactive.
